Allergy UKA leading testing company has donated more than £15,000 to charity as part of an initiative to celebrate three decades of analytical research.

Eurofins UK presented a cheque for €17,500 to Allergy UK, in a move marking 30 years since CEO Gilles Martin set up Eurofins Scientific.

The global company, which operates more than 400 laboratories in 45 countries, pledged to donate a total of €1million in 2018 to good causes.

Phil Coles, Eurofins Food and Water Testing Managing Director, said: “The 30th anniversary of Eurofins and the decision by our CEO to allow each business within the Group to elect a charity of their choice to support has presented the UK team with what genuinely feels like a unique opportunity to help a most worthwhile and critical cause.

“The rapid pace in which allergic disease continues to affect an ever-growing number of people is a concern. But the passion that Allergy UK has for this cause is clear and, due its unwavering commitment to supporting those affected by it, means there is a very good chance that the situation will improve greatly for many people.”

Earlier this year, businesses making up Eurofins Scientific were asked to nominate charities aligned with their business operations. For Eurofins Food Testing, analysis of potential allergens is a service in increasing demand from food manufacturers and retailers.

To deal with the demand and position itself for future growth, the company has doubled the capacity of its allergen laboratory at its Wolverhampton headquarters.

Allergy UKAllergy UK’s CEO Carla Jones was joined by colleagues from the charity during a visit to the laboratory where she also opened the newly extended allergen laboratory.

She said: “It was incredibly interesting to visit Eurofins. Allergen testing in food is essential and can be lifesaving, so it was really useful to see how this is carried out in the laboratories.

“It’s key for all involved in the safety of food supply and consumption to work collaboratively and supportively. We’re hugely grateful for this donation, which massively helps us in our work and in raising our profile.”

With some of the donation from Eurofins, Allergy UK were able to produce the following video:
