Microplastics in UK Water: Why Analysis Matters

Contact us

Recent studies have drawn attention to the growing presence of microplastics in UK and European water sources. In the UK, research has shown that untreated water in the environment can contain an average of 4.9 microplastic particles per litre. Although treatment processes reduce this significantly, the potential impact on ecosystems and human health is under increasing scrutiny.

Across the EU, concentrations of microplastics in drinking water are generally low, but variability between samples and sources has driven the need for accurate testing. The European Commission and national agencies are continuing to explore standardised monitoring methods.

In response to this challenge, Eurofins provides accredited analysis of microplastics and tyre-derived rubber particles through our European Microplastics Competence Centre. Using Pyr-GC/MS, we deliver sensitive, reliable results for a wide range of water types, helping organisations understand their microplastic exposure.

This service is available to UK clients and is supported by our local team, ensuring efficient sample handling, logistics, and technical support throughout the process.

Why act now?

Microplastics are increasingly scrutinised by regulators, researchers, and consumers alike. Engaging with accurate, accredited analysis now positions your business ahead of future regulatory developments and demonstrates commitment to environmental responsibility.
