PFAS Testing in Food and Feed

Contact us

PFAS can enter the food chain through contaminated water, soil, or animal feed. Higher levels are often detected in fish, seafood, meat, eggs, and certain vegetables, particularly from areas with known contamination. With new binding maximum levels introduced by the EU in 2023, and a rapidly evolving regulatory landscape globally for these forever chemicals, PFAS testing is essential for regulatory compliance and consumer safety.

Eurofins offers accredited analysis for nearly 40 PFAS substances in food and feed, helping producers, processors, and retailers manage risk, meet regulations, and protect brand integrity.

Regulatory background*

  • EU Regulation (EU) 2023/915; sets maximum levels for PFOS, PFOA, PFNA, and PFHxS (individually and as PFAS4) in meat, fish, eggs, and dairy

  • Amendments to Regulation (EU) 2017/644; strengthen sampling and analytical method requirements

  • EU Recommendation (EU) 2022/1431; encourages broader monitoring across multiple food categories
