On 14 October, Eurofins Food Testing UK Limited welcomed a select group of food industry professionals to a complimentary Food Safety Technical Day at our state-of-the-art Wolverhampton laboratory, hosted by our Food Compliance and Risk Management team. The event brought together regulatory experts, technical consultants, and senior analysts to explore key challenges in food safety, supported by interactive workshops and practical insight sessions.

The day was opened by our Commercial and Customer Experience Director to welcome our guests.

The agenda contained insightful presentations, laboratory-based workshops and optional laboratory tours

  • Determining shelf-life with confidence; presented by Senior Food Safety Consultant Ali Aitchison, exploring best-practice approaches for scientifically robust product shelf-life determination

  • Microbiological Risk Assessment; when it is required, how it supports due diligence, and the consequences of misinterpretation

  • Cooking Validation Workshops; led by Senior Analyst Aisha Khalid, providing practical guidance on process validation and temperature control

  • Foreign Object Identification; interactive group sessions using real case samples to improve awareness and response strategies

  • Challenge Testing; when it should be applied, its limitations, and how it supports product safety strategies

  • Horizon Scanning; emerging regulatory and market drivers affecting ingredient safety, contamination risk, and testing requirements

  • Interpreting Complex Results – guidance from Food Chemistry Consultant Francis O’Connor on accurately reviewing and understanding analytical reports in challenging matrices

Optional laboratory tours were offered at the end of the day, providing attendees with a behind-the-scenes look at our UKAS Nos. 0342 (Eurofins Food Testing UK Ltd.) and 9946 (Public Analyst Scientific Services; PASS) accredited facilities and testing capabilities.

Positive feedback and future planning

The event received excellent feedback, with delegates commenting on the value of the content, the expertise of our presenters and the practical nature of the workshops. One attendee summarised the day by saying, “It was a great day – let’s do it again.”

Based on the strong positive response, we are planning further Technical Days in 2026 to continue supporting the industry with scientific leadership and actionable insights.
