Eurofins Food Testing UK is proud to announce an enhancement to our UK-based residues testing service, with the introduction of newly validated ultra-low detection limits for chlorate and perchlorate in dairy matrices, including milk and infant formula.
With a turnaround time (TAT) available from 5 days to just 48 hours, this validated, UKAS No. 0342 accredited method offers an excellent solution for manufacturers needing sensitive and timely contaminant analysis, particularly important for high-risk products such as infant formula and milk powders.
Also available for fruit and vegetable samples: the same method is validated down to 0.1 mg/kg for chlorate and perchlorate in fruit and vegetable matrices, with the same industry-leading turnaround times.
Why test for chlorate and perchlorate in food?
Chlorate and perchlorate are undesirable residues that can enter the food chain through water disinfectants, fertilisers, and other industrial processes. While not intentionally added to food, their presence—especially in products like milk, infant formula, fruit, and vegetables—can impact thyroid function, particularly in infants and young children.
To protect vulnerable consumers and ensure regulatory compliance, food manufacturers are increasingly required to monitor these residues at extremely low concentrations.
