Using species specific PCR technique, we can compare the genetic profile of a sample against curated reference data to identify declared and undeclared species. Testing can be performed on a wide range of matrices; fresh, frozen or mixed ingredient products.

Reliable DNA-based methods for plant identification

DNA is extracted from the sample; target sequences are amplified by RT-PCR using species-specific primers and probes, or identified by DNA barcoding where appropriate. We are able to analyse all edible plant species and their potential adulterants (edible or otherwise) listed in these databases, such as pure spices (oregano, ground pepper, etc.) or mixtures (curry masala, etc.). It should be noted that within a genus, genetically similar species may not be differentiated.
