Eurofins radiation testing capability
With regard to the serious situation in Japan the EU published a new import Regulation 297/2011 for food and feed from Japan on Friday, 25 March 2011. It sets up limits on Caesium-134/137 and Iodine-131 according to Regulation (EURATOM) 3954/87 (Food). All imported goods need to be accompanied by a declaration of compliance based on analysis, harvest date or harvest region.
Currently in Fukushima, the emitted nuclides are mainly Iodine 131 and Cesium 137, which can be detected with gamma spectrographs and Eurofins can test for these and other radiation indicators. Eurofins Environmental radioactivity laboratory near Paris has over 20 years experience in radioactivity analyses in water.
