Eurofins expands dioxin testing in light of German egg contamination

Eurofins, the leading European food testing laboratory group has expanded its testing of contaminants in eggs, including dioxin, which has recently been traced in liquid egg imports into the UK from Germany.

One of the few laboratories to offer a wide range of residue and contaminant testing of eggs including dioxin, Eurofins tests eggs for a variety of contaminants. Eggs are vulnerable to contamination as toxins accumulate in the yolk or are easily transferred through the porous egg shell. The Eurofins WEJ scope includes more than 150 commonplace veterinary drugs; dioxins, furans and PCBs – which can be toxic if found at significant level within eggs – plus pesticides, sometimes consumed by chickens via feed and accumulating in the eggs.

Liz Paterson, Sales & Marketing Director at Eurofins said:

“Following the recent outbreak of dioxins in liquid eggs in the UK, manufacturers need to be assured that the egg products they are importing are traceable and of the highest quality. As a leading authority on dioxin testing in Europe, Eurofins can advise on the necessary scope of analysis and deliver accurate results.”
