What is PAS 100?
Compost

PAS 100 (Publically Available Specification 100) for composted materials is the minimum requirement for the process of composting. It is a way of evaluating the quality of the compost, helping to ensure it is safe, reliable and consistent. A composter's product needs to be compliant with PAS 100 before it can be marketed as a composted material.

PAS 100 is sponsored by the Waste and Resource Action Programme (WRAP) and is monitored by Renewable Energy Assurance Limited (REAL) under the Compost Certification Scheme (CCS).

Testing Services

Since its inception, Eurofins have worked closely with REAL in developing the testing protocol for PAS 100.

The complete testing package for PAS 100 is now available from our Wolverhampton laboratory, one of a limited number of laboratories approved by REAL.

All PAS 100 testing carried out by Eurofins is completed in-house by highly trained professionals, so you can be assured that the service is comprehensive and consistent.

Testing Requirements

The PAS 100 requirements for composted materials specify upper limits for a number of parameters, including:

  • Human pathogen indicator organisms
  • Potentially toxic elements
  • Physical contaminants
  • Weed propagules

Minimum performance in plant germination and growth tests is also required.

In addition to the required tests (detailed in the table below), Eurofins offer a number of additional parameters that relate to the nutritional status of the final product. The minimum sample size is 15 litres.
